Manchester Internet provider acquired by N.Y. firm [The New Hampshire Union Leader, Manchester :: ](New Hampshire Union Leader Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 28--MANCHESTER -- A New York operator of fiber optics networks is acquiring Internet service provider G4 Communications of Manchester with the hope of adding customers and employees in New Hampshire, a company official said Wednesday. "It is a growth story," said James Capuano, FirstLight Fiber's senior vice president and chief of network operations. "This isn't a synergy story." G4 Communications employs about 20 people, mainly split between a data center on Sundial Avenue and offices on South Maple Street, he said. The Manchester company, which offers broadband, Internet and telephone services, serves a customer base of less than 1,000, including state and local government, K-12 schools and health-care companies. FiberLight also employs about 15 people in Nashua. "Manchester and Nashua, that region is a growth market for us," Capuano said. "We're intending to grow that business."The acquisition is expected to close in the next 30 to 45 days. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Rather than G4 leasing fiber optics or copper lines, it will be able to use the private networks FirstLight operates. "They have a lot of services they offer today, and we want to take those services and apply those to our fiber network," Capuano said. More data can flow over a fiber network than one using copper, meaning G4 customers will be able to upgrade services. "In many locations, the only thing coming into the building is copper," he said.
