Digicel Bermuda draws in new subscribers with free Netflix offer [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Bermudan wireless carrier and internet service provider (ISP) Digicel Bermuda is offering new subscribers a free one-year subscription to the over-the-top (OTT) video streaming service Netflix when they sign up to a 6Mbps or higher broadband package. In addition, Digicel is giving subscribers a BMD7.99 (USD7.990 credit on their bill for each month they remain subscribed to the OTT service. In announcing the promotion, The Royal Gazette notes that the carrier has thrown down the gauntlet to rivals with CEO Alistair Beak telling journalists that Digicel is 'moving away from dated cable TV services'. His comment caused an instant response from his counterpart at Bermuda CableVision, with Terry Roberson noting that customers were sticking with his firm because 'they realise that the internet cannot provide all the great programming that is available on our channel line-up.'
