HTC shows off its first octa-core 64-bit smartphone [Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia)]

(Mobile 88 Online (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) And for HTC’s next trick, they will be revealing a smartphone with some impressively high-powered specs. Posting on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, HTC has mentioned that they will have the world’s first octa-core 64-bit smartphone. HTC’s current flagship device, the One M8 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 32-bit chip with (only) four cores clocked at 2.3Ghz. An eight-core 64-bit chip would be a game-changer then.

Despite all that, HTC’s not saying which phone will see this new chip, or even what the chip is, exactly. Right now, Qualcomm has started production on multiple 64-bit 8-core chips, including a mid-range Snapdragon 615. On the other hand, the higher-powered Snapdragon 808 and 810 will not be due until later in the year. Based on the render that is being shown, the corner of the device shown in HTC’s teaser also seems like it might be mid-tier as well, so we may actually see it sooner than we think.
