BETA Healthcare Group Partners with the California Hospital Patient Safety Organization to Eliminate Preventable Patient Harm

ALAMO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

BETA Healthcare Group (BETA) recently entered into an agreement with the California Hospital Patient Safety Organization (CHPSO) to promote participation in Patient Safety Organization (PSO) services provided to hospitals and health systems in California. CHPSO was formed by the California Hospital Association and is part of California's Hospital Quality Institute. It is the largest and oldest hospital-based PSO in the nation with over 300 member hospitals and health care organizations.

BETA believes CHPSO will provide California hospitals with unmatched access to the emerging best practices from hundreds of hospitals and in-depth patient safety resources. CHPSO has developed a regional model for PSO membership that brings together health professionals from neighboring facilities to engage in frank, open and legally protected discussions about patient safety and quality issues, based on the premise that the most powerful method for change comes through sharing experiences.

"It is BETA's goal to promote innovative solutions and provide resources to mitigate risk. Our choice to partner with proven patient safety experts demonstrates BETA's commitment to excellent healthcare delivery," said Tom Wander, Chief Executive Officer at BETA Healthcare Group. "Learning about system defects as intended through this federally protected mechanism will enhance patient safety and promote fact-based improvements at a statewide level," said Heather Gocke, Vice President Risk Management and Patient Safety at BETA.

"We welcome BETA Healthcare Group and its members and insureds. CHPSO exists to serve its members and their patients, and welook forward to this opportunity to partner with BETA Healthcare Group in this complex but vital task of eliminating preventable patient harm," said Rory Jaffe, CHPSO executive director.

Members that participate in this PSO will have access to "safe table" forums, evidence-based recommendations, an on-line resource center, educational offerings and more. The agreement will enable BETA to convene confidential safe table meetings with BETA Healthcare Group hospitals to discuss patient safety events and to collaborate on initiatives aimed at reducing patient harm. BETA will host its first Safe Table forum focused on the Electronic Health Record at its upcoming Risk Symposium in September.
