Fans to Determine Wonder Goals' Winner, Says LMC

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WINNERS of the Wonder Goals initiative that confers on a player, whose goal was voted as the best by fans, the benefit of choosing a local charity to share from the N100, 000 prize money, would be picked by fans after every match week, the League Management Company (LMC) has revealed.

The initiative is another Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) the LMC instituted to deepen the league's engagement with its public.

The Wonder Goals Project is a social media interactive scheme that aims to encourage community-based engagement by the clubs, showcase the video of goals scored by players in the Glo Premier League and also to recognize the circumstance, collective and individual qualities that produced some of the goals.

LMC Chairman, Nduka Irabor, explained that the project dubbed 'Wonder Goals,' offers fans the opportunity to see some of the best goals scored in the 2013/14 Glo Premier League season and also to vote for the goal they consider the best.

It follows on the heels of the social cohesion messages and health awareness campaign launched by the league organizers through its digital media platforms and at match venues.

So far, a total of 502 goals have been scored in 238 games of 24 Match Days played, which amounts to an average of 20.9 goals per Match Day and 2.1 goals per match.

Every player, whose goal attracts the highest number of votes, will earn N100, 000 from which 50 per cent will be donated to a local charity of his choice.

According to the LMC, all voting would be done online through its digital platforms "(www.lmc-ng.org), where fans would choose from three goals weekly and through the LMC facebook account (www.facebook.com/leaguemanagementcomapny), where fans will click the 'like' button on the uploaded video any goal of their choice. The videos can also be found on the LMC Twitter handle, @lmc-npfl." The LMC has already announced Rangers of Enugu forward, Christian Osaguona Ighodaro, as the winner of the inaugural week.

A statement from the LMC said, "Rangers lanky forward Christian OSAGUONA Ighodaro's goal against Kano Pillars on Match Day 3 has been voted the best of the inaugural week of Wonder Goals launched by the LMC to kick-start this new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative." Osaguona would receive his prize money on Sunday when Rangers hosts Dolphins of Port Harcourt in a Match Day 25 Glo League fixture at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

Osaguono is one of the five NPFL players listed in a recent Super Eagles squad that will play Congo DR and South Africa in the qualifying games of the 2015 Cup of Nations.

The LMC disclosed that polling for the next winner starts on Sunday and will end on Friday, August 29.
