India : MEDIATEK opens new R&D facility in INDIA [TendersInfo (India)]


(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) After opening a new R&D facility in Bengaluru, India recently, chip manufacturer MediaTek has announced its plans to invest $200 million in the country over the next few years to enhance R&D capabilities to develop affordable solutions for the growing super-mid market.



The new R&D center in Bengaluru, which will create solutions for wireless communications, will also establish the chipmaker's presence in other core segments such as connectivity and home entertainment devices.

The new center will create new products and applications to leverage growth prospects in emerging technologies like LTE.


It will collaborate with other globally sited R&D facilities of MediaTek to design solutions that integrate hardware, software and services to provide a seamless cross-platform experience to consumers.

Managing director, MediaTek India, Grant Kuo, said : "MediaTek Bangalore R&D center would cater to the growing needs of millions of consumers in emerging super-mid market, especially in the South-East Asian region." General manager, MediaTek Bangalore, Akshay Aggarwal, added : "By year-end, we plan to build a workforce of over 100 professionals with strong expertise in the IC design industry, and over the next few years, we look to grow to over 500 in number."
