Celcom boss in list to helm MAS? [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]

(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KUALA LUMPUR: Khazanah Nasional Bhd may turn to Celcom Axiata Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly to lead its troubled outfit, Malaysia Airlines.

Industry observers said Shazalli's corporate leadership and skills are qualities that Khazanah could not ignore as it seeks someone new to steer the national carrier to profitability again.

It is learnt that the government investment arm may also hire foreign talent to replace some of MAS' top executives.

Khazanah is set to delist MAS under a RM1.4 billion buyout for the remaining 30 per cent stake it does not own.

MAS group chief executive officer (CEO) Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, whose contract is believed to end next month, is not expected to stay for long.

Shazalli was appointed Celcom CEO on September 1 2005. Prior to that, he was CEO of ntv7 for eight years.

He has received various awards such as Masterclass CEO of the Year Award, CEO of the Year by PC.com Readers Choice Awards and the Business Leadership Award.

Last year, he was named "ICT Personality of the Year" at the Pikom ICT Leadership Awards.

Meanwhile, a financial daily yesterday named Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala and Axiata Group Bhd's chief Datuk Seri Jamaludin Ibrahim as those being considered to helm MAS.
