C'river Govt Commends MTN On Support for Security

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Cross River State government has commended the MTN Foundation for its various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) interventions in the state but want further interventions in the area of communication infrastructure that will help the government achieve its blanket security plan for the state.

The state governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, made the commendation in Calabar through his Deputy, Mr. Efiok Cohbam, who took delivery of five Toyata Hilux patrol vehicles donated to the state by the CSR wing of the mobile telecommunication giant; the MTN.

According to him, the government has always partnered with MTN Foundation, "but this is the first time government will directly interface with the organization and this is for good." He said the state government places priority on security of lives and properties, hence the need to ensure that all the nooks and crannies of the state are effectively policed.

"This donation is coming at the right time in view of the fact in eight weeks from now, the state will be hosting the National Sports Festival and later the Calabar Carnival festival. By donating these vehicles, MTN Foundation has contributed to the strengthening of security in the state.

"We are asking for more particularly being that you are a communication company, we need your support in the area of communication infrastructure to achieve the government plan of blanket security cover of the entire state.

"We assure you that the donation is timely given the fact that the state will host the National Sports Festival and the Calabar Christmas festival within the year, which demands security readiness and we are grateful." The Director, MTN Foundation, Mr. Dennis Okoro, had said the company was being conscious of its corporate social responsibility and was donating the vehicle to strengthen security in the state.
