TIA Congratulates ANSI Leadership and Service Award Winners for Commitment to National and Global ICT Standards(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 13 -- The Telecommunications Industry Association issued the following news release: The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today congratulated three TIA-affiliated leaders for receiving 2014 ANSI Leadership and Service Awards. The awards recognize those in the ICT industry who have made significant contributions to national and international standardization activities and demonstrated an ongoing commitment to both the industry and the global, voluntary standards system. TIA President Grant Seiffert said, "TIA is thrilled that ANSI has chosen to honor John Oblak, Cheryl Blum, and Jonathan Jew for their many contributions to the voluntary standardization community in the U.S. and around the world. This is an especially exciting year, as these recognitions are rarely given to several people affiliated with one association. As an ICT industry leader on standards, TIA recognizes how important it is that we have passionate and dedicated volunteers to do the often thankless work of standards development. We're proud that these three individuals, who have supported the TIA standards process for years, are receiving this well-deserved recognition." Recipients of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) 2014 Leadership and Service Awards include: * John Oblak, Vice President of Standards and Regulatory affairs at EF Johnson Technologies. Mr. Oblak will receive the Finegan Standards medal for showing extraordinary leadership in the development and application of voluntary standards. Since 1984, Mr. Oblak has been Chairman of a TIA TR-8.1 Engineering Subcommittee and has been serving as Chairman of the full TIA TR-8 Engineering Committee on Private Radio Systems since 1998. Throughout the years, he has overseen the development and maintenance of over 300 ANSI and TIA standards and documents. His insights, experience, and skill in voluntary consensus industry standards work have made him a highly respected and recognized leader in the global mobile and personal private radio standards development community. * Cheryl Blum, Vice President of Technology and Standards at TIA (retired). Ms. Blum will receive the Meritorious Service award for demonstrating outstanding service in enabling ANSI to consistently meet its objectives as part of the U.S. voluntary standardization system. With three unprecedented terms as Chair of the Steering Committee of the Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) and additional terms as Chair of TIA TR-45.2 and TIA TR-45, Ms. Blum has excelled at navigating complicated political and technical issues. After retiring from Alcatel-Lucent, Ms. Blum joined TIA as Vice President of Technology and Standards and helped TIA strengthen the organization's position as an ICT industry leader on standards. * Jonathan Jew, president of J & M Consultants Inc. Mr. Jew will receive the Meritorious Service award for demonstrating outstanding service in enabling ANSI to consistently meet its objectives as part of the U.S. voluntary standardization system. As a globally recognized leader and foremost expert on data center cabling, reliability and design, Mr. Jew has served several leadership roles at TIA, ISO/IEC, and BICSI. Mr. Jew was a driving force and major influence in the development and design of data center standards, which now provide the fundamental foundation for cloud services. These recipients, along with 15 other individuals, will be honored at the 2014 ANSI Leadership and Service Awards ceremony held on October 22, 2014, in Washington, D.C. in conjunction with World Standards Week. A major function of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is the writing and maintenance of voluntary industry standards and specifications. These activities are carried out by the volunteer members of TIA engineering committees.
