Singulus Q2 Loss Widens, Order Intake Plunges

(dpa-AFX International Compact Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KAHL AM MAIN (dpa-AFX) - Singulus Technologies AG (SGTSF.PK, SGTSY.PK), a German company engaged in the optical data storage sector, solar and the semiconductor industry, reported Thursday that its second-quarter net loss was 8.3 million euros, wider than last year's 2.7 million euros.

Earnings before interest and taxes or EBIT was negative 7.4 million euros, compared to last year's negative 1.6 million euros.

In the quarter, sales amounted to 13.4 million euros, lower than last year's 26.4 million euros. The order intake was 11.1 million euros, compared to 33.2 million euros in the prior year.

In its forecast for the business year 2014, the company assumed a slight increase in sales as well as in operating earnings.

Singulus Chief Executive Officer said, "Although the course of business in the Solar division is still cautious, not all of the expected order decisions have been made this year so far. Here, we are well positioned for several investment projects with our products and we expect additional, larger order intake in the 2nd half, which together with the existing orders should still make earnings contributions in the current year."
