WellPoint Plans To Change Its Brand Name To Anthem, Inc.(dpa-AFX International Compact Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Health benefits company WellPoint, Inc. (WLP) Wednesday confirmed its intentions of changing its corporate name to Anthem, Inc., for building greater consistency, clarity and direct relationships with its consumers.By adopting the new name, the company said it is seeking to create better alignment between its corporate and product brands. The change is expected to occur by the end of 2014, after shareholders' approval. Commenting on the name change, Joseph Swedish, president and CEO of WellPoint said: "Brand is a significant driver of consumer purchasing decisions across our businesses. As we move closer to a consumer-centric marketplace, we believe Anthem is the best brand to lead our company forward to becoming a more consumer capable company."
