King to Attend Municipal Broadband Launch in Rockport

King Jr., I-Maine, issued the following news release: U.S. Senator Angus King announced today that he will join the Town of Rockport, Maine Media Workshops + College, GWI and Network Maine at the official launch for Maine's first municipally-owned, ultra-fast internet network.



The new "gigabit per second" network in Rockport, which can transmit 1,000 megabits of data per second, is the result of a public-private partnership between the town government, private industry and educational institutions.

The first of its kind in Maine, this community-owned, ultra-high-speed network is an important step forward for economic development and technology infrastructure in Maine.


Also attending the rollout event will be Susan P. Crawford, who formerly served as President Obama's Special Assistant for Science, Technology, and Innovation policy. Ms. Crawford is a leading advocate for high-speed internet access in the U.S. and is attending the event at Senator King's invitation.

Monday, August 11th: 12:30 P.M. Official Launch Event for Maine's First Municipally-Owned, High-Speed Internet Network Maine Media Workshop + College, Haas Building, 70 Camden Street, Rockport, Maine Senator King and former Special Assistant to President Obama Susan B. Crawford will join representatives from the Town of Rockport, Maine Media College + Workshop, GWI and Network Maine to celebrate the rollout of this innovative community partnership.
