After two-day outage, Internet service restored for Mendocino Coast [The Press Democrat, Santa Rosa, Calif. :: ](Press Democrat, The (Santa Rosa, CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 06--Cellphone and Internet service on the Mendocino Coast has been restored after a two-day outage following a reported Sunday evening vehicle accident east of Highway 1 on Comptche-Ukiah Road, according to MCN, an Internet service provider operated by the Mendocino Unified School District. The incident, which is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, damaged about 400 feet of AT&T fiber optic cable, MCN reported. It cut service for much of the coast, though the company did not specify how many coastal residents and businesses were affected. Some recipients of government cash and food assistance programs were also affected, the county reported. The outage lasted from about 5:20 p.m. Sunday to mid-afternoon Tuesday, MCN reported on its website. CHP officers are looking into the cause of the downed wires. No vehicles were on scene upon officers arrival in the area Sunday night and no power poles were damaged, said Sgt. Jerry Elroad. It's possible an oversized vehicle may have caught the wires overhead or that they were already sagging and were caught by passing traffic, he said. Fire department officials expressed concern that such outages could affect area residents' ability to phone 911. Affected CalWORKS and CalFresh recipients were advised to visit the county's Social Services office in Fort Bragg, at 764 S.
