Fraudsters posing as telecoms operators target mobile phone users [Seven Days (United Arab Emirates)]

(Seven Days (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Mobile phone users across the country are being warned to be on the lookout for scammers claiming to be authorised service providers.

The Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) has recently dealt with several incidents of callers tricking people into revealing valuable personal information.

The TRA said the fraudsters promise cash prizes to lure mobile users into disclosing bank account details, as well passwords to email and social media accounts.

All mobile users in the country are being told to avoid sharing such personal information via telephone or by e-mail.

"With the pace of technological advancement we are witnessing today, hackers are able to create a plethora of new and innovative ways to obtain personal information illegally," said TRA director general Mohammed Nasser Al Ghanim.

"This modern reality necessitates extra caution by customers when sharing any personal information with people via unreliable sources." Al Ghanim urged mobile users to report any scam calls to the police.
