Mobile regulator calls 4G tender [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]

(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Albania's Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) has launched tender procedure to award licences for the use of frequencies in the band 1965–1980 MHz paired with 2155-2170 MHz and 5 MHz unpaired spectrum in the range 1915–1920 MHz, the watchdog informed in a statement. The frequencies will enable the introduction of the fourth generation network services, knows as 4G, on the local market. The floor price is set at EUR 1.5mn. The bids will be opened on September 15.

Two mobile service providers active in Albania, Vodafone and Eagel Mobile have already expressed commitment to launch 4G services.

Vodafone Albania won the country's first 15-year 3G licence in November 2010 with a bid of EUR 31.4mn. Albanian Mobile Communications (AMC), the local subsidiary of Greek OTE, won the second tender in September 2011 submitting the highest offer of EUR 15.1mn. Eagle Mobile won the third 3G licence in October 2012 offering EUR 4mn.
