Malabar Gold & Diamonds hosts Iftar in GCC for over 65,000 people [Peninsula, The (Qatar)]

Doha: Ramadan has ended and Muslims all around the world celebrated Eid Al Fitr with fervour and gaiety.  Malabar Gold & Diamonds, one of the leading jewellery retailers intensified its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities during the holy month and hosted Iftar in GCC, in association with like-minded organisations.  In Qatar, the jewellery chain organised Iftar in a labour camp near Karwa headquarters, attended by over 875 people.



In the UAE, such events were conducted in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah, in association with Sharjah Charity International, Community Development Authority Dubai and AWQAF,   Sharjah. Over 50,000 Iftar meals were distributed in the UAE.

In Kuwait, it provided Iftar meals for over 4,300 people at labour camps in locations like Meena Abdulla, Meena Al Zoor, Wafra Dessert, Hassawee and Mahboula, in association with Kerala Islamic Group, Youth India and Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association.  In Bahrain, it provided over 3,750 meals to labours in locations like Asker, Jau, Asari, Hamad Town and Durrat Al Bahrain, in association with Discovery Islam and Al Hedaya Centre.  The jewellery chain also organised Iftar at Friendship Society for Blinds, Bahrain, for the visually impaired members of the society and their families.


In Oman, it hosted Iftar at Muttrah Souq, Muscat, Dhofar Club, Salalah, and Ruwi. Over 4,350 people benefited.  In Saudi Arabia, the jewellery group provided Iftar meals to over 1,500 people at a labour camp in Riyadh, in association with Riyadh Muslim Coordination Committee.  It also hosted Iftar in Jeddah, attended by over 900 people.

Since its inception in 1993, Malabar Group has been involved in CSR activities to make a difference to the community in and around their area of operations.

The importance of CSR activities for the group has grown over the decades and it sets aside a certain percentage of its net profit for the benefit of the needy.  It undertakes social welfare activities all year long, focusing on five priority areas — medical, educational sector, environment, housing and women's empowerment.
