Items that will not be taxed are: Clothing with a value of $100 or less, including most clothing and footwear. Accessories are not included.

School supplies of $50 or less per purchase used in a standard classroom for educational purposes. Eligible items include textbooks, notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, crayons, art supplies, rulers, bookbags, backpacks, handheld calculators, chalk, maps, globes and personal computers and peripheral devices under $3,500.

Laptop, desktop or tower computer systems, monitors, keyboards, disk drives, memory modules, CD drives, microphones, modems, motherboards, speakers, printers, scanners and sound or video cards are eligible purchases, as is computer software costing less than $350.

Individuals making purchases do not have to be buying for a student to get the tax break.

"The annual sales tax holiday is a perfect opportunity to get some or all of your back-to-school shopping under way and save some money," John Mollenkamp, acting director of the Missouri Department of Revenue, said in a press release.
