Museum of Science Opens 4-D TheaterBOSTON --(Business Wire)-- The Museum of Science, Boston today announced a new 4-D Theater will open on Friday, August 1, 2014. The 4-D Theater combines the visually captivating high definition capabilities of a 3-D film with special sensory effects that are built into the theater seats and environment to create a fully immersive experience. The 4-D Theater features industry-leading technology to provide museumgoers with a full sensory experience that will bring on-screen images to life. The action spills out of the screen over the audience with thrill-enhancing sensory special effects including wind, water misting, blowing snow, bubbles, scents, and even a tremor beneath the feet, making the audience feel like they are part of the action on-screen. "We are always seeking new experiences to offer our visitors, and we are thrilled to present the new 4-D Theater," said Jonathan Burke, vice president for visitor experience and operations. "In each film, viewers will be transported to new and exciting places, while also truly feeling like they are in the film through the innovative incorporation of each sense. When a whale breaches on screen, guests will feel the ocean spray. If it is snowing on screen, it will even be snowing in the theater." In the new theater, the Museum will offer films that are both educational and fun. When the theater opens, the Museum will present three films offering a range of exciting journeys. Museum visitors can surf the coast with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and glide alongside a cast of balletic sea lions in Planet Earth: Shallow Seas 4-D Experience; join Dora, Diego, and Boots as they try to catch a Robot Butterfly in Dora & Diego's 4-D Adventure; or journey to the icy Antarctic world to meet Mumble in Happy Feet 4-D Experience! The new 4-D Theater will seat 98 guests for each film. This multisensory experience will complement a visit to the Museum by providing fun, family-friendly, engaging, and immersive film content. The Museum has partnered with Toronto-based SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment for the new theater. SimEx-Iwerks has successfully provided 4-D cinema experiences to select North American zoos, aquariums, museums, and theme parks, captivating millions with the magic of this immersive theater experience. SimEx-Iwerks works closely with Warner Bros., 20th Century FOX, BBC Earth, Nickelodeon, National Geographic, and similar high quality producers to create all of its 4-D Experiences®. Admission to the 4-D Theater is $6 for adults, $5.50 for seniors (60 +) and $5 for children (3-11) with the purchase of Exhibit Halls tickets.
