ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. - INsite personnel and equipment positioning system put into pilot industrial operation at JSC PIMCU mines

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 29 July 2014 Release date- 25072014 - The project is being implemented within the framework of the Programme for Information Technology Transformation of ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation.

'The most important outcome of this system's application is safety of operations at mines. The software enables us to see location of people and machines at any time and within any level or site,' says Vladimir Luchnikov, Project Manager, Head of Directorate for IT and APCS of JSC PIMCU.

Now, miners' lamps and underground mining machines are supplied with special sensors - inbuilt personal and vehicle transponders. They transmit signals to reader units, installed in different locations within levels and underground mining sites. Overall, each operating shift uses more than 1,000 transponders and more than 300 reader units. Dedicated software, INsite-Expert, ensures that the obtained information is registered and entered into the database to be subsequently analyzed and displayed.

In the online mode, signals arrive at the automated distribution centre on a per-second basis. Thanks to the customized application, an operator can see on a graphical interface all the information, displayed in the form of a schematic map of a mine, and is able to watch over people's and machines' movements. This helps provide for general safety of mining operations performed and prevent accidents. In the event of an emergency, location of people can be promptly determined.

According to Natalya Yushina, Team Leader for Project Management of IT and APCS of JSC PIMCU, the experts are currently monitoring operation of the positioning system in order to identify and eliminate deficiencies. By end of July, the system will be put into industrial operation at Mine No.8 and by mid-August - at Mine No.1.

Also, an underground mining communication system has recently been put into service at all mines of JSC PIMCU. It enables the personnel to communicate between each other and with mine's dispatcher. The radio sets also provide access to industrial and engineering communication (local telephone numbers). Furthermore, mine rescue team's radio sets are adjusted to the mines' frequencies, which makes it possible to immediately respond to emergency situations.
