Bharti expands 4G network [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Bharti Airtel, India's largest mobile operator by subscribers, has launched 4G services in Nagpur, the Economic Times writes. The launch makes Nagpur the second city in the Maharashtra circle to gain access to Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE) services, after Pune. According to TeleGeography's GlobalComms Database, Airtel was the first of India's cellcos to launch 4G services, activating its network in April 2012, and currently holds a monopoly on the sector, although a number of rivals are set to inaugurate networks shortly, with Aircel and Videocon both targeting a Q3 2014 launch, whilst newcomer Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) is expected to launch in 2015.
