UDS launches CSR Training Institute [Ghana News Agency]

(Ghana News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Accra, July 25, GNA - The University for Development Studies (UDS) and the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Training Institute have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish CSR Training Institute at the university.

The CSR Training Institute, which will be based in UDS offices in Accra, will bring the CSR Training Institute's globally recognised suite of CSR training and support programming to Ghana.

A statement issued in Accra and copied to Ghana News Agency said on Friday the UDS CSR Training Institute would provide training and capacity development to support the industry sector.

The Institute will work with industrial associations, individual businesses, national, district and local governments, NGOs, communities, donor agencies and others to develop and deliver a range of CSR training programmes and support services.

Programmes will be delivered in Accra as well as at UDS facilities and throughout Ghana.

Students studying at the Masters and PhD levels will be able to integrate CSR specialisation into the full range of existing graduate programmes, whereas UDS students at all levels will have the opportunity to be exposed to CSR training in current and emerging programmes.

The Institute is partnering with the United Nations Global Compact, CSR Foundation of Ghana and others to deliver a National Seminar on CSR Partnerships and Development September 18, as part of the UN Global Compact's CSR Celebrations in Ghana.

The statement quoted Vice Chancellor of UDS, Professor Haruna Yakubu as saying: "CSR has emerged as a critical business and development issue for Ghana and indeed, globally.

"With Ghana preparing to launch a National CSR Policy we are excited to bring world-class CSR training capacity to Ghana and make it available to support Ghana's development.

"Our programmes will be targeted to support the needs of business, communities, governments and development organisations at all levels.

"We will offer programmes ranging from short Certificate Courses to Graduate Diplomas and even Masters and PhD specialisations.

"They will integrate with and complement our existing range of programming." According to the statement, Wayne Dunn, President and Founder of the CSR Training Institute said: "We are very pleased to partner with UDS to enhance our ability to deliver CSR programming and support to Ghana.

"UDS is well-known as a premiere academic institution and its practical approach to integrating developing into its full range of academic programming, has made its graduates industry favourites for their ability to hit the ground running when they start work.

"This practical, hands-on approach coupled with how development permeates UDS' full range of programming made them the ideal partner for Ghana and the sub-region.

"The CSR Training Institute has been delivering CSR training in Ghana and throughout Africa and we are eager to move forward with UDS and create an African based institution.

"We look forward to learning from UDS' experience, developing and delivering target training and support programs and helping UDS to integrate CSR into existing programmes." GNA // (c) 2014 Ghana News Agency (GNA) Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (Syndigate.info).
