DASAN secures Viettel FTTH equipment contract [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Vietnamese telecoms operator Viettel has awarded DASAN Networks of South Korea a contract for the supply of high speed broadband internet infrastructure, telecomasia.net reports. The initial USD18 million order covers the provision of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) and Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON) equipment to the military-owned telco over the next four months. The report adds that the companies also plan to negotiate over a contract to supply additional FTTH equipment shortly. According to TeleGeography's GlobalComms Database, Viettel had a total fixed broadband customer base of 529,206 at the end of March 2014 (giving it a market share of around 10%), including 150,797 FTTH subscribers.
