NCC confirms almost 1,500 4G base stations in operation by end-June 2014 [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]


(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC) has reportedly approved the establishment of a total of 2,918 4G base stations so far, Digitimes reports. Of this figure, 1,458 ones were said to have already been constructed and put into operation as of the end of June 2014. Mobile market leader Chungwha Telecom (CHT) is understood to have submitted applications for the highest number of 4G base stations – 862 – while it also has the largest number up and running, having already rolled out 480 of those. By comparison, Far EasTone (FET) is said to have filed applications for the construction of 567 4G cell sites, with 370 of those now active, while Taiwan Mobile Company has applied to build 567, of which 280 were in operation. New market entrant Taiwan Star Cellular has proved keen to establish itself, meanwhile, having applied to construct a total of 704 4G base stations, with 328 of those reportedly being deployed by end-June 2014.
