DECD Enhances Tourism Marketing Efforts

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AUGUSTA, Maine, July 24 -- The Maine Department of Community and Economic Development issued the following news: The Maine Office of Tourism (MOT), within the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) welcomes Jennifer Geiger to the office staff in a new role created to facilitate public relations, and expand industry outreach and communications with tourism partners in Maine. Geiger will be working with the Office of Tourism's public and media relations team, The Dilenschneider Group (DGI), to support PR initiatives that promote economic development through tourism and related industries.

"We are really excited to have Jennifer on board," said Carolann Ouellette, Director of the Maine Office of Tourism. "She will be working hand-in-hand with DGI to expand not only our PR efforts regionally and nationally, but also at home here in Maine. Having someone handle tourism-related PR internally will really help boost communication on two fronts at a minimum - information from us to the industry and vice versa. A review of best practices in other states has shown this to be a winning formula." Geiger has a degree in Journalism from Boston University, and broad experience in destination marketing and related business promotion in Maine. She comes to the MOT after serving for five years as director of Main Street Bath, a downtown revitalization organization, where Geiger was instrumental in expanding public relations initiatives to increase visitation to Bath's historic downtown district. During her tenure, Main Street Bath earned a number of accolades including selection as one of America's "Great Streets" in 2009 by the American Planning Association and winning a 2012 "Great American Main Street Award" from the National Main Street Center.

"I'm delighted by this opportunity to take a larger role in the growth of tourism in Maine," says Geiger. "Building our economy and helping attract new private investment through the promotion and preservation of our beautiful state is my passion, and no one does it better than the Maine Office of Tourism." Tourism is recognized as the largest economic driver in Maine, contributing approximately $7.5 billion annually to the state economy.
