Gov. Appoints Competitiveness Review Board(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) JUNEAU, Alaska, July 24 -- Gov. Sean Parnell, R-Alaska, has issued the following news release: Governor Sean Parnell appointed Rodney Brown, Curt Freeman, Tom Hendrix, Tom Maloney, Joey Merrick II, Kara Moriarty, and Peter Stokes to the Oil and Gas Competitiveness Review Board. The duty of the board is to take a complete view of oil and gas exploration, development and production in the state and make recommendations to the Alaska Legislature. The board will initially consider the state's regulatory and permitting environment and the effectiveness of workforce development efforts. The Oil and Gas Competitiveness Review Board was included in Senate Bill 21, the More Alaska Production Act by Senator Lesil McGuire. Governor Parnell supports the provision that he calls an important tool to keep Alaska's oil fields competitive for investment and production. Brown, of Fairbanks, is the business manager for Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 375 and president of the Alaska Petroleum Joint Crafts Council. He formerly worked as a welder foreman for Norcon, Inc. Brown is appointed to a public seat. Freeman, of Fairbanks, is the president of Avalon Development Corporation. He is the chairman of the Geologic Mapping Advisory Board for the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys, and a member of the Alaska Miners Association and the Society of Economic Geologists. He holds a bachelor's degree in geology from the College of Wooster and a master's degree in economic geology from the University of Alaska. Freeman is appointed to a geologist seat. Hendrix, of Palmer, is the vice president of oil and gas for Carlile Transportation Systems. He previously was the vice president of strategic business development for Carlile, and North Slope logistics manager for Arco. Hendrix formerly served as president of the Alaska Support Industry Alliance. He is appointed to a seat nominated by the Alaska Support Industry Alliance. Maloney, of Anchorage, is the Alaska area manager for CH2MHill. He is past president of the Resource Development Council. Maloney formerly served as a board member for the Municipality of Anchorage Investment Advisory Commission, Alaska Chamber of Commerce, Anchorage Economic Development Corporation, and Junior Achievement of Alaska. He is a certified public accountant, a certified management accountant, and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from California State University Fullerton. Maloney is appointed to the financial analyst seat. Merrick, of Eagle River, is the business manager/secretary-treasurer for Laborers' Local 341. He currently serves as a board member on the Alaska Workforce Investment Board, the Construction Industry Progress Fund, and as a committee member for the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company President's Advisory Committee. His community involvement includes membership in the Resource Development Council, Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, Eagle River Chamber of Commerce, and the Alaska Support Industry Alliance. Merrick also volunteers as a coach for youth soccer and Pop Warner football. He is appointed to a public seat. Moriarty, of Anchorage, is the president and CEO of the Alaska Oil and Gas Association and former president of the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce. She sits on the Resource Development Council Board of Directors Executive Committee and is a member of the Anchorage Rotary Club. Moriarty holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Mount Marty College. She is appointed to a seat nominated by the Alaska Oil and Gas Association. Stokes, of Anchorage, is a petroleum engineer and business consultant for Petrotechnical Resources of Alaska. He has worked on projects in Alaska, Oklahoma, Indonesia, and California. Stokes is chair of the University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Engineering Advisory Development Council. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Alaska Association of Drilling Engineers, and board member of the Alaska Support Industry Alliance. Stokes received a master's degree in global business from Duke University. He is appointed to a seat reserved for a petroleum engineer.
