LexisNexis Supports Research Projects, New Certification Program at Kennesaw State University(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KENNESAW, Ga., July 23 -- Kennesaw State University issued the following news release: LexisNexis Risk Solutions today announced that it recently donated three individual gifts totaling $150,000 to Kennesaw State University. "The Computer Science Department is proud and excited about these gifts as the first step toward an anticipated long-term partnership with LexisNexis involving their 'big data' and analytics technologies," said Interim Chair Ken Hoganson. "Our students will benefit with research opportunities in a hot area of computing, sponsored by and using LexisNexis HPCC Systems (High Performance Computing Cluster) technologies." The largest of the three gifts, $80,000, will support research aimed at further promoting open source HPCC Systems in both academia and industry. The goal of the research projects is to produce a series of publications and demonstrations about the performance of HPCC Systems in big data analytics, and where appropriate, highlight its benefits over Hadoop. HPCC Systems is a massive parallel-processing computing platform that solves big data problems. It is a homegrown solution of LexisNexis Risk Solutions and allows its customers to quickly analyze billions of records. LexisNexis is also contributing $65,000 for the creation of a certificate program that will give students, industry professionals and practitioners a comprehensive overview of real world big data projects. Graduates of the program will be able to perform big data analytics on the LexisNexis HPCC Systems platform. The certification will be available as a non-credit certificate for industry professionals and practitioners or as a for-credit certificate for degree-seeking and post-degree students. "We are pleased to donate and invest in Kennesaw State University's research and certification programs, because this builds on our commitment to improve the quantity and quality of students and graduates looking to pursue STEM careers," said Flavio Villanustre, Vice President, Products and Infrastructure, HPCC Systems, LexisNexis. "In addition, it is our strategy to continue our academic program to more academic and research institutions to help society tackle the technology challenges for the next decade." "The gifts will also allow the CS department to offer for-credit certification programs to our current and future students with high value to high-tech employers utilizing LexisNexis technologies and tools," Hoganson said. "I anticipate that the non-credit certification program will be sought after by analytics professionals in the metro Atlanta technology community as a ladder to help working professionals grow into careers in this incredibly exciting field." A portion of the gift will also be used to sponsor "R Day," a mini-conference hosted by the Department of Statistics and Analytical Sciences.
