The boss of TalkTalk predicts [...] [Mirror (UK)]

(Mirror (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) 6 The boss of TalkTalk predicts an ultrafast broadband revolution will be a knock-out hit and drive down prices.

The telecoms firm and rival Sky are investing Pounds 10million in a trial in York to plug tens of thousands of homes and firms directly into a state-of-the-art network.

By using fibre optic cables the whole way, users get an internet speed of one gigabit. That's 13 times faster than the maximum from BT, which partly relies on slower copper cables.

Dido Harding predicted this form of ultrafast broadband would be available to 10 million homes within a decade.

She also predicted it would result in lower prices for fibre broadband which "should not be the preserve of the few".

Her comments came as TalkTalk revealed revenue rose 3.1% to Pounds 434million in the three months to the end of June.

The firm signed up 185,000 new TV customers as it extended a deal to show Sky's content. The new contract includes Sky Sports Box Office, which showed boxer Carl Froch's super middleweight title victory over James Groves at the end of May.
