Citrix revenues up 7 percent [Sun Sentinel :: ]

(South Florida Sun Sentinel (FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 24--Fort Lauderdale software company Citrix Systems saw second-quarter revenue grow by 7 percent.

Citrix on Wednesday reported $782 million in revenue, up from $730 million in the same quarter in 2013.

Profits totaled $53 million, or 31 cents a share, compared with $64 million, or 34 cents a share, for its quarter ended June. 30. The company beat earnings per share by 22 cents and had higher-than-estimated revenues.

The maker of mobile and other remote work tools, with 1,600 employees in Fort Lauderdale, also recorded impairment charges of about $30 million and restructuring charges of about $5 million related to severance.

Professional services revenue, which includes consulting, product training and certification, increased 15 percent; software services revenue grew 12 percent; and revenue from license updates and maintenance increased 7 percent, the company said.

Citrix said on a conference call Wednesday that it closed 47 transactions over $1 million during the quarter, with half from the mobile and desktop business and one of its recently released workplace suites, which deliver mobile workplaces via the cloud.

Recently returned chief executive Mark Templeton said he was pleased with the results. "I'm really proud of how our team delivered greater operating efficiencies while driving our very significant pivot to mobility," he said.

"And, on a personal level, I'm excited to be back, energized, and looking forward to the future here at Citrix," said Templeton, who returned to work earlier this year after a personal leave. Templeton had previously said he would retire next year.

After returning as CEO, Templeton said he has focused the company's priorities, such as the mobile workspace, and aligned the organization around them.

"I'm the same person, and I'm still here to steward the company through another pivot," he told analysts. "In 20 years, I've steered the company through several, and this is another. I think this is the most exciting one of all," he said.
