(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Broadcom has secured 2 major customers in the broadcasting industry in India.

Broadcom is a provider of semiconductor solutions. It has finalized Videocon d2h as its new customer. In addition, the company has been appointed earlier by Hathway Cable and Telecom for its DOCSIS 3.0-based chipset to power that provider s new broadband solution.

Broadcom s integrated satellite set-top box (STB) system-on-a-chip (SoC) device has been selected by Videocon d2h to power their latest high definition (HD) universal serial bus (USB) digital video recorder (DVR).

According to the company, its BCM7358 HD satellite STB SoC allows Videocon d2h to bolster deployment of HD satellite STBs to users throughout the region while reducing design complexity, size and overall system cost.

The company stated that it now powers Videocon d2h s HD USB DVR which is formulated to address customer demand for pay-TV programming.

Anil Khera, Videocon d2h CEO, commented The silicon innovation that Broadcom provides has been a key factor in our continued success in delivering rich content to our growing subscriber base. We re leveraging a variety of Broadcom STB silicon throughout our portfolio and plan to extend our manufacturing capabilities to meet the needs of other cable operators in the region.

Broadcom s BCM7358 single-channel 1080p HD advanced video coding (AVC) satellite receiver chip features a high performance CPU and graphics engine, Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) connectivity support and advanced security functionality.

Videocon d2h is a leading direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service provider in India.
