Sunrise Senior Living Executive Ed McMahon Named 2014 Champion of Quality Award Recipient


MCLEAN, Va. --(Business Wire)--

Ed McMahon, Ph.D., vice president of Quality for Sunrise Senior Living, has been named the recipient of the 2014 Mary K. Ousley Champion of Quality award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). McMahon receives this recognition for his commitment to quality and numerous contributions within the long-term care field.

"I'm grateful to receive this national award, which serves as a testament to my work, the work of my colleagues and our unwavering commitment to progressing the quality of long-term care in this country," said McMahon. With a career spanning more than 30 years, McMahon's accomplishments include pioneerin the first Alzheimer's care unit within a skilled nursing facility, the development of special care units and person-centered care within skilled nursing facilities, research projects with multiple universities, and leadership on the boards of several corporations. As the vice president of Quality for Sunrise, McMahon leads 289 Sunrise communities through Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI).



AHCA presents the Mary K. Ousley Champion of Quality Award to a person or organization that has made a significant national contribution to advancing quality performance in the long term care field. Recipients must consistently advocate for quality approaches, while demonstrating the ability to educate and advocate for a systems approach to quality improvement. Recipients also display leadership in the development, promotion, and implementation of quality improvement initiatives that improve the quality of care and quality of life for individuals in need of long term care, according to AHCA.
