Rovi Hires Omar Javaid as Senior Vice President of Discovery

SANTA CLARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Rovi Corporation (NASDAQ:ROVI), a global leader in entertainment discovery, today announced that Omar Javaid has joined the company as senior vice president of Discovery, based out of Rovi's corporate headquarters in Santa Clara. As head of the newly created Discovery business group, Mr. Javaid is responsible for Rovi's discovery product offerings from concept to customer delivery and oversees multiple areas across the group - from engineering, architecture and user experience to product lifecycle management (PLM), program management and product marketing. He reports directly to John Burke, Rovi's executive vice president and chief operating officer.

"With extensive experience in managing large scale, cloud infrastructure initiatives, Omar will bring industry best practices and proven approaches to help expedite our transition to Internet Protocol-based solutions for multiscreen guidance and discovery," said John Burke, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Rovi. "The diverse skill set and expertise that he brings to this new role will help us streamline our efforts across multiple company functions, foster collaboration and centralize our product initiatives in entertainment discovery as we bring new innovations to life."

Prior to joining Rovi Corporation, Mr. Javaid worked at Hewlett-Packard (News - Alert) as vice president and general manager, Commercial Mobility where he led mobile computing efforts focusing on enterprise software and services. Prior to HP, he was the vice president of product management at Motorola (News - Alert) Mobility where he successfully managed and launched hardware and also led Motorola's software, cloud services and media strategy initiatives. His previous positions included senior roles at BBO Global, a Palo Alto-based product development and venture incubator; Qualcomm (News - Alert), a world leader in 3G, 4G and next-generation wireless technologies; and Mobilocity, a boutique software and services firm that was acquired by Wireless Knowledge, a Qualcomm company.

"The service provider industry is undergoing great technological transformations and we see a significant opportunity to help our customers in this space address the need or a contextually-relevant, personalized experience for their subscribers," said Mr. Javaid. "I look forward to helping Rovi, a company with a rich history of enabling services that consumers interact with daily, reshape the market and push the boundaries of entertainment discovery innovation."

In 1981, Rovi revolutionized TV viewing with the introduction of the on-screen program guide. The company continues to drive innovation around guides, going beyond the presentation of simple programming information with the introduction of rich images and editorial content on TV shows, movies, celebrities, and more; the inclusion of relevant social media; and by enabling the streamlined navigation of entertainment across linear broadcast, personal recordings, over-the-top entertainment platforms as well as video-on-demand offerings. Unveiled earlier this year, Rovi Connected Guide is a next-generation, cloud-based offering designed to provide a simple path for service providers to progressively and cost-effectively transition a diverse subscriber base to dynamic, web-based discovery experiences.
