Jamaica : DIGICEL plans to buy TELSTAR [TendersInfo (India)](TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jamaica s leading cellco in terms of subscribers, Digicel has entered into an agreement to buy Kingston-based cable TV, broadband and voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) provider Telstar. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The deal, which requires endorsement from the Broadcasting Commission, is part of an extensive strategy to expand Digicel s presence in the broadband market in the region. We are investing heavily in cable TV, content and fibre across our markets to ensure that Digicel is positioned at the forefront of a data-intensive world. We look forward to expanding our footprint further in the space in the coming year through a combination of acquisitions and greenfield builds, stated Digicel GroupCEO Colm Delves. According to Telstar s managing director Flo Darby, Telstar s management team will collaborate with Digicel in the short term to ensure that the cableco changes hands smoothly.
