Australia : OPTUS, TELSTRA - Several 4G 700MHz sites to be switched on this week [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Optus and Telstra have announced that several 4G 700MHz sites will be turned on this week before the 1st January launch of the networks.

While Telstra said it had 4G in six locations that would come on using the spectrum band including Perth, Fremantle, Mt Isa, Mildura, Griffith and Esperance, Optus said it plans to switch on 700MHz 4G in the CBDs of Darwin and Perth this week.

The 700MHz is scheduled to come online on 1st January, 2015, after the analog television networks in Australia closed in 2013, and the restack of the spectrum band earlier in 2014.

Telstra, and Optus, which along with TPG paid nearly AU$2 billion to acquire spectrum at the auction in 2013, have been testing 4G on 700MHz for several months to make sure it is compatible with their networks, and have been able to secure early access licences at those sites from the Australian Communications and Media Authority recently.

A senior official of Optus said The switch on of 4G in Darwin and Perth on Wednesday, will mark the maiden availability for 4G in Darwin for the company's customers, where it doesn't have access to the 1800MHz band for 4G.
