United Way sets kickoff date, names 2014 chairman [The Pantagraph, Bloomington, Ill. :: ](Pantagraph (Bloomington, IL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) July 22--BLOOMINGTON -- United Way of McLean County on Monday announced its 2014 Annual Campaign will officially kick off Aug. 22 at a Normal CornBelters game. The Campaign Kickoff, sponsored by the Illinois Farm Bureau, starts at 7 p.m. at the Corn Crib in Normal; the 2014 campaign goal will be announced during the game. This year's campaign chairman, Ed Quijano said the venue was chosen because the campaign is "a community-wide effort, so we want to invite the entire community out for a night of family fun and entertainment." Quijano is an assistant vice president at State Farm. In a statement, he said, "At United Way, what we do, we do together, and the way we do it is with joy. It's a privilege to give back and to make investments right here in our own community, and I look forward to each step we take together to that end." United Way's fundraising campaign provides funding to more than 60 partner programs managed by more than 30 local, non-profit organizations. Last year, United Way raised $4,013,334 and hopes to top that this year. Tickets for the kickoff and game between the Cornbelters and Traverse City Beach Bums can be purchased through the Mid-Illini Credit Union box office, by calling 309-454-2255, or via the Cornbelters website at www.normalbaseball.com.
