Dube Tradeport banks on tech [ITWeb]

(ITWeb Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dube Tradeport's ICT infrastructure aims to connect the precinct and attract further investment.

KwaZulu Natal-based trade and logistics zone Dube Tradeport has made its integrated IT hub a key part of its aim to attract further investment by offering integrated technology service delivery.

The precinct, which has been designated as a special economic zone, is spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and located at Durban's King Shaka International Airport. Its technology network, Dube iConnect, provides high-speed broadband connectivity and voice services.

Lerato Mosidi, project manager for the DTI, says the hub aims to enable the best technological environment for a growing number of businesses to thrive.

Numerous media reports note technology giant Samsung will be one of the major tenants in the Dube TradeZone, with plans to establish a manufacturing plant.

The Dube TradePort Corporation (DTPC) notes its data centre's 99.99% uptime service level agreement will be an incentive for businesses seeking to invest in the facility.

DTPC was established to bring the zone from planning phase to fruition and has injected around R90 million into ICT infrastructure. The investment includes a fibre-optic network, and dedicated IT buildings and equipment, the company says.

Telkom, MTN, Vodacom, Neotel, ONEdotCOM, Internet Solutions and EOH Mthombo are on board "to ensure organisations using the service enjoy a failsafe network at all times", says DTPC.

Last year, the facility launched a data centre incorporating Cisco UCS blade architecture, EMC storage, and providing resellers with an infrastructure service platform on which they can offer hosted solutions to the market.

Dube Tradeport is located on a 2 840 hectare site and will include an agriculture zone, office and retail area, as well as a cargo terminal.
