Vodafone plans R14bn upgrade [Cape Times (South Africa)]

(Cape Times (South Africa) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Vodafone Egypt would invest about 9.5 billion Egyptian pounds (R14.1bn) over the next three years to improve its network, chief executive Ahmed Essam said late on Sunday. Vodafone Egypt would finance the plan from existing funds. The company, which is owned by UK cellular operator Vodafone and state-controlled fixed-line telecoms firm Telecom Egypt, is the leading communications player by customer numbers in the country. Egypt is finalising the details of a long-awaited unified licence, which will allow firms to offer mobile and landline telecommunications. Vodafone Egypt was still studying the possibility of offering landline services and had not reached a decision, Essam said. - Reuters Cape Times (c) 2014 Independent Newspapers (Pty) Limited.
