KEYMILE delivers two million vectoring ports

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Hanover -- Over the past two years, KEYMILE has been supplying network operators worldwide with VDSL2 vectoring technology. Recently the number of vectoring ports sold topped the two-million mark. The demand for fast broadband access is continuing to grow rapidly. VDSL2 and vectoring permit when combined, the transmission of even higher data rates on existing copper lines. As a result, network operators can cost effectively cover their customers demand for broadband and take another step in supplying better broadband access en route to a purely optical fibre network. Key reasons for the vectoring boom are low investment costs, strong demand for even more bandwidth and the option to continue to use existing copper lines. As many network operators opted for VDSL2 and vectoring to achieve the broadband targets in their markets, KEYMILE recently topped the two-million mark of vectoring ports delivered.

With an increasing number of VDSL2 subscribers on one cable, crosstalk (FEXT) between the VDSL2 signals limits the achievable data rate. In this case vectoring makes vital improvements possible. The data rate rises and the variance of attainable data rates in the cable decreases. Vectoring allows telecommunications operators to provide high data rates. The technical advantage of the VDSL2 transmission technology can be harnessed to the full. The actual data-transmission rate also depends on the wire length. In typical FTTC installations (optical fibre to the cable distribution cabinet) data rates of up to 100 Mbps downstream and 40 Mbps upstream are attainable over 600 metres. Since 2012, KEYMILE has been supplying its customers with VDSL2 boards for MileGate, the multi-service access platform. The boards allow network operators to upgrade to vectoring at a later stage. This could be an integral part of an overall strategy: network operators initially offer VDSL2 but plan to upgrade to vectoring in the future. If network operators wish to add vectoring to the VDSL2 service from the beginning, a board with an integrated vectoring unit is also available.

"Vectoring shows that KEYMILEs sustainable approach to product development also pays dividends to our customers who have been able to add vectoring to VDSL2 hardware purchased two years ago, comments Axel Fry, Chief Sales Officer and in charge of global sales at KEYMILE. "This underpins our strategy of offering high-tech products with a clear-cut migration strategy.
