Egypt's mobile subscriptions up 0.68% m/m, internet users rise 0.63% m/m in April 2014 [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]


(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The number of mobile subscriptions in Egypt rose 0.68% m/m to 101.94 million in April 2014, increasing the penetration rate by 0.63% m/m to 119.89% of Egypt's total population, the monthly bulletin of the communications ministry showed.



The total number of internet users slightly increased by 0.36% m/m to 42.31 million with the internet penetration rate edging higher to 49.84%. The internet users' way of access was distributed amongst mobile internet and USB modem (50%), ADSL (36%), ISDN & Dial-up (7%) and leased line (7%).

The number of fixed telephony subscriptions edged up by 1.31% m/m to 6.88 million in April 2014 with the national penetration rate rising to 8.24%. The were no major changes in the fixed-line subscriptions' distribution among the different sectors with residential users claiming the lion's share (86%) followed by commercial customers (11%) and the government trailing at a distant third (3%).
