(Brandon Sun, The (Manitoba, Canada) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Thursday, July 17 * 6:30 a.m. -- The Hamiota Agricultural Fair kicks off bright and early with a pancake breakfast at the fairgrounds followed by a parade at 9 a.m., cattle and horse shows, petting zoo, dog show, children's activities, cold plate supper at 5 p.m.; Manitoba Gymkhana Rodeo Association livestock show at 5 p.m. and Mid-West Arts Council concert at 6:30 p.m.



* 4 p.m. -- The Global Market is open in downtown Brandon at 12th Street and Rosser Avenue. Get hip in the Hub! Featuring home-based businesses, artisans and crafters, and fresh, local produce. New this year is the Global Market Café, Park for Peace greenspace in the middle and the addition of three new vendor booths. Open until 7 p.m. Tonight's entertainment: Gardening activities with Blake from Brandon Community Garden Network; Lucky Ned with Friends.

* 5 p.m. -- Whitehead Firefighters smoked beef barbecue will take place at the Alexander rink until 7 p.m. Tickets: adults $15; children aged 6-10, $6; under 5 are free. Tickets are available from our volunteer firefighters or the RM office at 204-752-2261.


* 6 p.m. -- An auto show will take place in the southeast corner of the Co-op Marketplace parking lot until 9 p.m. For more information, call Grant at 204-726-4382.

* 7 p.m. -- Music in the Parks features Darlene Tuft's Husband at Princess Park.

* 7 and 8 p.m. -- Daly House Museum is hosting a Strawberry Social with sittings at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. Patrons can enjoy the ambience of the garden, listen to Victorian-era music and taste a traditional strawberry shortcake. Seating is limited so book as soon as possible. Tickets are $10 and are available from Daly House or by calling 204-727-1722.

* 8 p.m. -- The Route 10 Collective presents Bob-fest, the music of Bob Dylan, at the Onanole Community Centre. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $22 in advance and are available at Poor Michael's Bookshop. For more information, call 204-848-0336.

Friday, July 18 * 6:30 a.m. -- Harding Agricultural Society kicks off their 110th anniversary celebration with a pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m. followed by pony, light and heavy horse and cattle shows, barrel racing, horticultural displays, arts and crafts, antique machinery, beer gardens.

* 10 a.m. -- The Boissevain Lions Club invite you to a 40th birthday celebration for Tommy Turtle. Lots of activities for the kids with free tours at Wildlife Museum and Model Train Museum; barbecue, entertainment in the park with Mr. Mark; birthday cake and lemonade; golf tournament and beer gardens.

* 5 p.m. -- The Killarney Beach Festival kicks off with a family dance at the Killarney Golf Course followed by a boat parade on Killarney Lake at 9 p.m.

* 7:30 p.m. -- The Oak Lake Agricultural Society prepares for its 128th annual fair with entertainment by Southern Country Band in the Community Hall with fireworks at dusk.

Saturday, July 19 * 7 a.m. -- The Oak Lake Agricultural Society gets the day started with a pancake breakfast in the Community Hall. Parade at 10 a.m., MGRA show, pig scramble, slo-pitch tournament, children's activities, tractor pull at 3 p.m.; beer gardens, cold pate dinner at 4:30 p.m., 4-H steer sale.

* 9 a.m. -- The Global Market is open in downtown Brandon until 1 p.m. Featuring home-based businesses, artisans and crafters, and fresh, local produce. * 11 a.m. -- The Killarney Beach Festival continues with children's activities on the beach, four-on-four volleyball tournament, sand castle building, family-face-off challenge, summer jam festival with Gary Sample and the Desperate Ones, Skill Circus Fire show, and the Beachfest social featuring Until Red at 9 p.m.

* 1 p.m. -- Explore Brandon's heritage at this year's Doors Open Brandon event until 5 p.m. Buildings of historical and architectural significance open their doors to visitors. A historical walking tour will be offered by local history buff and Brandon Sun columnist David McConkey. * 2 p.m. -- The British Columbia Boys Choir celebrates its 45th year with a cross-Canada tour this July, along with the Abbotsford Virtuosi. This choir of 45 boys will be showcasing songs and stories that tell the rich history of Canada from east to west. Neepawa is very lucky to be included in this national tour which will play at the Roxy Theatre. Tickets are available at It's Time, Viscount Cultural Centre and at the door. * 2 p.m. -- Killarney Music Jamsare held at the Erin Inn until 5 p.m. Bring your instruments and come play and sing, dance or just listen. Coffee available. Hosted by Tumbleweed Express, Ed and Susana Penner 204-523-1797.

* 6 p.m. -- Teen Challenge benefit concert will take place at Bethel Christian Assembly featuring Michelle Price -- contemporary Christian music with special guest. Free will offering.

At the clubs * Lady of the Lake -- Tom Dowden entertains at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Saturday features Katie MacDonald at 7:30 p.m.

* The 40 -- The 11th annual Ridgefest takes place at The 40 this weekend. Friday's lineup on the Emerging Artists' outdoor stage starting at 5 p.m. is 4x4, invitational acoustic jam session, Dead Fit. On the main stage inside starting at 9 p.m. is Hudsy, Balloons For a Million, Out F' Sync, Tremendous Dynamite and Left of Centre. Saturday on the Emerging Artists' outdoor stage at 4 p.m. is Bennie and the Jets, Trapped In Air and Common Sense Hero. On the main stage inside starting at 9:30 p.m. is Daisy Chain, The BOB FM Band, The Invisible Men, Fargen Gruben and Blacklite Buddha. Patrons under the age of 18 will be allowed into the bar when accompanied by a parent. Tickets are available at the door.

* Houstons Niteclub -- Tonight is ladies' night as well as the Foam Party with DJ Fin-s and Tha Coach. Friday is three-for-one appetizers and $2.25 drinks with free cover until midnight. Come in on Saturday for the Hoedown and drink specials.

* The Great Western Roadhouse -- Flirt Fridays with DJ Dirty Bird. Drink and shooter specials all night. At the Galleries & Museums * The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba -- Hours: Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit agsam.ca. In the Main Gallery: "Upshot," by Fiona Annis, Lorna Bauer and Laura Findlay and co-curated by Natalia Ledbedinskala and Anastasia Hare, focuses on evoking suspension, holding still the tension between action and consequence. This exhibit is on display until Aug. 15. The Community Gallery: "Endless Days," by Brandon Sun photographers Bruce Bumstead, Colin Corneau and Tim Smith, featuring images that span their various projects and assignments. This exhibit is on display until Aug. 1. Children and Teens Summer Classes run for four weeks until Aug. 1. Students from ages six to 15 can sign up for a variety of art classes. * The Royal Canadian Artillery Museum at CFB Shilo -- Summer hours: seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* The Daly House Museum -- Original home of Brandon's first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly, which was built in 1882 and is the only period museum in western Manitoba. Ordinary citizens of Brandon who were heroes at home during the First World War are commemorated in the new exhibit, "Every Citizen a Soldier," on display until Sept. 1. The exhibit features many remembrances from the time, including medals, uniforms, letters written home by soldiers, trench art and more. Hours: Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the summer. For more information, call 204-727-1722. In connection with the Open Doors tours, we will have on display in the Victorian Garden a VecTor Garden Train, G scale on a 16-foot-by-30-foot track.

* 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum -- Come see a vast collection of historical military items at 1116 Victoria Ave. Open Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call 204-717-4579 for other times. * The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum -- Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m, seven days a week. The museum is Canada's only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of the history of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Check out our RCAF Memorial Wall display in the museum's hangar. Travel back to the 1940s as you wander through a Second World War vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. The museum will highlight the progress on the RCAF Second World War Memorial to be unveiled on Sept. 10.

* The Brandon General Museum and Archives -- On the ground floor of the old Manitoba Telephone building at 19 Ninth St. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. On display is a new exhibit showcasing Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) history including a vintage switchboard and a display of telephones of the past 50 years. In connection with the Doors Open Brandon tours the museum will be open July 19 and 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* The Arts West Travelling Gallery -- The 2014-15 travelling gallery is at the Souris Library.

* July 22 -- Elkhorn Fair starts with a pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m. followed by cattle and horse and sheep shows, bingo, music jam sessions, supper at 5 p.m. exhibit auction at 6:15 p.m. and evening entertainment at 7 p.m.

* July 23 -- CWE Wrestling presents "Big World, Little People" tour including the appearance of professional wrestling's Mighty Midgets starring Short Sleeve Sampson, at the Souris and Glenwood Memorial Complex from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door.

* July 24 -- Music in the Parks features Daisy Chain at Princess Park at 7 p.m.

* July 24-27 -- The 60th Threshermen's Reunion takes place in Austin with vintage parades, stooking and threshing demos, MRCA rodeo, music and entertainment and much, much more. They will also feature Manitoba's Military Heritage to commemorate the impact of the 100th anniversary of the First World War and the 75th anniversary of the Second World War on Manitoba farms, families and communities.

* July 25 -- The Roseland/Brandon South community is holding its first tailgate barbecue at 5:30 p.m at the Roseland South Brandon Community Centre (three miles south on Highway 10 then turn east at the Roseland Curling Club and go a half mile and we are on the north side of the road). It is $5 to taste and vote on the best tailgate barbecue. To enter, email Roselandsouthbdn@ hotmail.com or call 204-761-7039. No entry fee. Cash prize for the winner. * July 28 -- It's Marathon Monday, and Patrick Law and Dylan Thornborough will be playing more than 200 holes of golf to support the Canadian Cancer Society at the Glenboro Golf and Country Club. The day-long event will begin at sunrise, and conclude with a supper and prize auction at 7 p.m. Tickets for Marathon Monday supper are available for $30 with all proceeds going directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.
