BANGOR -- The 20th annual Neighborhood Block Party will be held 6- 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Chapin Park. The park is behind the Abraham Lincoln School between Forest and Parkview avenues. As in the past, the block party will feature a concert by the Bangor Band, 7-8 p.m. There will be free hot dogs, ice cream, soda and lemonade. Activities include Anah Shrine clowns, face painting, children's games, emergency vehicle displays, special therapy dogs and a pig to pet and play with. The Bangor Public Library volunteers will also provide a special "Story Time" area for children. Additional parking will be available at the All Saints Catholic School and restrooms will be available at the Abraham Lincoln School. BANGOR -- The Maine Air Museum, at 98 Maine Ave., is open 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturdays and noon-4 p.m. Sundays, through Sept. 26. Displays, pictures, and artifacts for civilian and military aircraft, from World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, and the Cold War. Information and pictures are available about all military plane crashes in Maine. Free parking. BANGOR -- The University of Maine Museum of Art, 40 Harlow St., will host three new exhibitions through Sept. 20. "Awake: Paintings by Maya Brodsky" includes realist oil paintings that offer glimpses into everyday life. "Looking Back Six Years -- Part Two: Selected New Acquisitions" features choice painting, sculpture and original prints acquired since 2008. "Young Curators " Eight Scoops" includes eight notable artists chosen by participants in UMMA's youth program. Open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is free. BANGOR -- The Fresh Air Market and Cool Sounds Concert Series will run Thursdays, through Aug. 7, in downtown Bangor. BAR HARBOR -- The Beatrix Farrand Society will offer an exhibit of its herbarium specimens beginning July 6, at Garland Farm in Bar Harbor. The display will feature members of the Ericaceae or Heath family.The plant specimens were collected in 1949-1954 from Reef Point, Beatrix Farrand's summer home in Bar Harbor. The original herbarium specimens are now part of the Herbaria of the University of California, Berkeley. Through digitization, a very high-quality set of full-size prints of the specimens, including those that form this exhibition, are returning to Maine.

BAR HARBOR -- The August First Friday Art Walk will be held 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, in downtown Bar Harbor. The gala will showcase traditional and contemporary art, including wall art, sculpture, glass, pottery, jewelry and fiber arts. Several galleries will also host "meet the artist" events. BUCKSPORT -- The Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, working in partnership with the Maine Forest Products Council, will host the first Bucksport Bay Festival of the Forest the evening of Friday, July 26 and throughout the day Saturday, July 27. FRANKFORT -- The Winterport Clippers Guild will host its third quilt show 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Frankfort Congregational Church on Route 1A. There will be many other items for sale as well, including fabric yardage, notions, books, magazines, jelly rolls and coordinated fat quarter bundles. ORLAND -- The featured display at the Orland Historical Society Museum this summer will be wedding gowns encompassing a century of styles, which are on loan from ladies of Orland and Bucksport. Among them is one worn by both mother and daughter. Another feature is three generations of gowns from one family. The dates range from 1898 to 2002, although not all consecutive decades in between. The Historical Society, located on School House Road in Orland will be open 1-3 p.m. the first and third Fridays in July and August. Tours are welcome, as are appointments. Terry, a reed and chekere player known primarily for his improvisational jazz, will appear in a unique chamber music configuration, his Bohemian Trio, composed of saxophone, cello and piano. "Romeo and Juliet and Zombies" is the world premiere of an original new play that has been in development by Opera House Arts for the past two years. WALDOBORO -- The second annual Locavore Food, Music and Arts Festival will be held 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, July 19, down in the hollow at Cider Hill Farm with a newly built stage for musical performances. The upper festival grounds will feature an outdoor art gallery, exhibiting sculptures from nearby artists and feature food stands from local businesses such as Harvest Moon Pizza and Pemaquid Oyster Co. The headliner is The Ghost of Paul Revere (holler folk), plus The Ale House String Band (chamber folk), Cayden's Call (blues/ rock), Nukulele (jam/jazz/ska), Robby Simpson (folk/rock), Work Trucks (Americana), Between Dead Stations (psychedelic blues) and Trisha Mason's Band (rock).
