Outside Hacks: A Boutique Music Hackathon in Search of Outside Lands' Superstar Hackers to Be Held at WeeblySAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)-- Outside Hacks is an annual hackathon put on by premiere music and arts festival, Outside Lands. The hackathon will take place July 26 - July 27 at Weebly's downtown San Francisco headquarters. Outside Hacks is being produced by CODEMKRS and will feature engineers, hackers, and designers creating new ways to enhance the Outside Lands experience for fans and artists. The winning teams will go inside Outside Lands to become literal rockstar hackers, winning a once in a lifetime opportunity to turn a good idea into a real world product alongside the very best in San Francisco music and technology. Outside Lands' Hackathon producer Travis Laurendine says: "The first Outside Hacks blew away all of our expectations in terms of turnout, quality of hackers, and ingenuity of the ideas. So much that the producers of the festival let one of the apps go live at the festival just 2 days after announcing it as the winner. This year we learned from that and moved the hackathon earlier in the calendar to ensure that the winning team's app has time to get properly integrated and become part of the official Outside Lands tech experience." In the 24-hour event, which runs from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, selected teams of web developers and designers will compete for a chance to win the ultimate Outside Lands experience and the opportunity to continue to incubate their product from inside the festival. Their challenge is to come up with ways to improve the experience for artists and fans. "When you get a bunch of developers and designers together, the creative possibilities are endless," said David Rusenko, co-founder and CEO of Weebly. Outside Hacks debuted last year with over 100 developers, designers, and innovators making new apps and technologies in just 24 hour. What sets Outside Hacks apart from other music hackathons is that the technologies created will go live at the festival so the 80,000 people there will become the apps first user base. The finalists will be announced at the end of the hackathon and this will earn them a slot demoing their hacks to a panel of elite judges from the technology and music industries. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on July 28th. The winning team wins prizes geared at turning their idea from code into something of value to the people of Outside Lands. Their app will be integrated into the official festival app and marketed to the fans of the festival. The producers of the hackathon will serve as connectors for the winning teams linking them with relevant people and companies to help them validate their products inside Outside Lands. This is counter to a traditional hackathon, since most hacks that get made at hackathons never see the light of day.
