Basho Appoints Executive Team to Lead Enterprise Focus


CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

Basho, the creator and developer of Riak, the industry leading distributed NoSQL database, today announced three new senior managers to lead and execute the company core roadmap on creating distributed databases and cloud storage software for enterprises. Peter Coppola has joined as vice president, product; Rob Gillespie as vice president, strategic sales; and Emmanuel "Manu" Marchal as director, solutions architecture in Europe.

Peter Coppola, VP, product

Coppola joins Basho as vice president of products to help drive its roadmap for Riak and cloud storage software, Riak CS. With more than 25 years of experience in enterprise software, embedded technologies, networking and digital media industries, Coppola brings a wide range of experience to lead the product roadmap and deliver to the unstructured data needs of Basho's customers. Prior to Basho, he held several executive positions for Limelight Networks (News - Alert) including vice president of products, leading product management and product marketing for the company's content delivery, cloud storage and interactive advertising lines. Coppola co-founded and was president of Unwired Vehicles and headed up marketing for Wind River's (News - Alert) (acquired by Intel) networking division and product marketing for NetManage. He holds three patents related to content delivery network encryption and currently serves as an advisor to iMemories, Inc.

Rob Gillespie, VP, strategic sales

With deep experience in building and managing teams focused on cloud solutions for large enterprise customers and channel partners, Gillespie will lead Basho's enterprise sales strategy as its new vice president of strategic sales. He has led sales for several software companies and was most recently vice president of sales at Tier 3 (acquired by CenturyLink). Pior to Tier 3, Gillespie was director of North American channels at Limelight networks, where he leveraged select partners to diversify Limelight's content delivery products. He has also led regional channel strategy at Akamai Technologies. Gillespie has held sales positions at Keynote Systems (News - Alert), Merant (acquired by Serena), Sterling Commerce (an AT&T company) and CA Technologies.



Emmanuel "Manu" Marchal, director, solutions architecture

Marchal joins Basho as director of solutions architecture for Europe. He brings 15 years of experience in big data, product management, global services organizations and sales. Prior to Basho, Marchal was vice president of services at big data company, Acunu, where he was responsible for worldwide pre-sales, delivery and support. He is founder of one of the largest big data communities in Europe, Big Data London, which currently has more than 3,000 members. Marchal has held senior and executive management roles at several technology companies, including LikeCube (acquired by Time Out), Tideway Systems (acquired by BMC Software), and global systems integrator Atos.
