PHONE SCAM ALERT [Gulf Daily News (Bahrain)](Gulf Daily News (Bahrain) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MANAMA: The public was yesterday alerted to threats from a network of gangs conning people with mobile phone scams. Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science director-general Brigadier Abdulrahman Sinan has asked people to be careful and avoid being trapped by these fraudsters. He said they cheat people by claiming they have won cash prizes and ask for their credit card numbers or want them to transfer funds into their foreign bank accounts to finalise procedures so they can have their "prizes". Brigadier Sinan was speaking after the arrest of an Asian gang that claimed to work for a telecom company and contacted a number of citizens and residents to inform them that they have won huge amounts of money. He said that all those involved in this scam lived in Bahrain and had no link with any gang aboard. "The group members are from the same country and decided to make big money without fearing police would track them down." .
