iBasis and Telekom Austria Group Peer for LTE Roaming and Signaling

BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

iBasis, a KPN company, and Telekom Austria (News - Alert) Group, today announced an LTE Roaming peering agreement that will benefit mobile network operator (MNO) customers of both companies by enabling a consistent, high quality LTE roaming experience for their subscribers. The new agreement leverages the companies' existing GRX peering agreement, as well as each company's IP eXchange (IPX).

A rapidly growing number of interconnected operators are leveraging the global IPX ecosystem to add value for their subscribers by utilizing IPX-enabled components, including Signaling/S6a and S9 (Diameter), Data/S8 and VoLTE, to deliver a complete LTE Roaming solution.

"We are eager to accelerate the global adoption of LTE roaming, which benefits the entire mobile communications community from subscribers to operators to solution providers and application developers," said Willem Offerhaus, iBasis (News - Alert) CEO. "Peering with qualified partners that share that vision, like Telekom Austria Group, enables us to expand our global LTE Roaming footprint and offer additional destinations quickly and efficiently."

"Mobile customers are increasingly expecting high quality access to their services whether they are at home or travelling," states Stefan Amon, Director Wholesale of Telekom Austria Group (News - Alert). "Through partnerships with proven providers we are expanding our reach and making the global LTE Roaming experience a reality. Telekom Austria Group reports a customer base of approximately 23 million retail customers who will benefit enormously from these enhanced services."

The iBasis LTE Signaling eXchange

The iBasis LTE Signaling eXchange service provides a single point of access to iBasis' live 4G (LTE) signaling network with Diameter Routing Agents in key locations around the world. Through direct connections to many mobile operators' LTE networks and through peerings with other leading providers, the iBasis global LTE Roaming footprint reaches more than 100 LTE networks. iBasis also offers a trial environment for testing LTE roaming scenarios and VoLTE.

Telekom Austria Group's LTE Signaling Service

As a group operator with wholesale and retail business and a strong history in signaling and transport, the Telekom Austria Group has in-depth knowledge about the needs of mobile operators. A1, the Austrian subsidiary of the Telekom Austria Group, was the first Austrian operator to provide 4G/LTE abroad. With its LTE Signaling Services, the group manages the transfer of Diameter messages over its carrier grade IP eXchange infrastructure. Based on the expertise from having access to both retail and wholesale customers, the solution was designed for the needs of operators to establish and maintain roaming destinations in a fast and cost-efficient way. Customers benefit from end-to-end quality of service, backed by cascading SLA.
