UMW expects market share to grow in Sabah, Sarawak [Business Times (Malaysia)]

(Business Times (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KUCHING: UMW Toyota Motors Sdn Bhd expects its market share in Sabah and Sarawak to grow with its first Lexus 3S centre, here.

President Datuk Ismet Suki said UMW Toyota believes that the luxury car segment will continue to grow in this side of the country and believes that Lexus can achieve the sales target of more than 1,400 units by year-end.

"For Sarawak alone, we are giving 100 units for a start as it will be a new market for Lexus. But due to the reputation of the brand, we are confident with the market potential here," Ismet said at the launch of its new 3S centre, here, recently.

UMW Toyota currently holds 14 per cent market share in Sarawak with Toyota Hilux being its best 4WD choice in the segment.

Toyota Hilux holds 50 per cent market share in the 4WD segment and the company targets 100,000 units of both Toyota and Lexus vehicles to be sold nationwide by year-end.

"It is good if we can get more chunk in the market share but there are few new models that will be coming to spice up the automotive scene," said Ismet.

The new RM52 million Lexus 3S centre is owned by dealer Boulevard Jaya.

The five-storey modern facility is able to display seven units of Lexus models ranging from the IS, ES, GS, LS and RX, all of which will be available here.
