General Assembly, expressed his desire Friday to attend the ceremony next year to mark the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. "If time permits and there is an invitation, it's good to see," Kutesa said in an interview with Kyodo News about visiting the western Japan city for its annual ceremony to commemorate the U.S. atomic bombing on Aug. 6, 1945. ---------- Japan lodges protest with S. Korea hotel over cancellation of SDF event TOKYO - Japan said Friday it has lodged a protest with a South Korean hotel for abruptly canceling a Japanese government-sponsored reception to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Self-Defense Forces, which fell July 1. "Whatever reasons (the hotel) may have, it is extremely regrettable that the hotel took such a measure the day before" the Japanese Embassy in Seoul was due to hold the event Friday evening, Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said at a news conference. ---------- Gov't to revise law to compel deletion of leaked personal data TOKYO - The government will seek to revise the personal information protection law to bolster measures to reduce damage from data leakage, a government source said Friday, following news that data on more than 7 million customers of Benesse Holdings Inc. had leaked. The revised law will stipulate a company can be ordered to erase personal data it holds regardless of whether the information was obtained illegally. ---------- Japan, U.S. defense chiefs to discuss collective self-defense policy WASHINGTON - The Japanese and U.S. defense chiefs will hold talks Friday on an ongoing review of bilateral security cooperation guidelines reflecting Japan's recent reinterpretation of its policy on the right to collective self-defense. Itsunori Onodera, Japanese defense minister, and Chuck Hagel, U.S. secretary of defense, are expected to reaffirm their commitment to following up on last year's agreement to review the guidelines by the end of this year.
