United States : SOFTWARE COMPANIES to develop wireless communication framework for IoT [TendersInfo (India)](TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A common wireless communications framework will be developed by a group of semiconductor, computing and software companies for internet of things applications. The Open Interconnect Consortium (OIC) consists of Atmel, Broadcom, Dell, Intel, Samsung and Wind River. They aim to develop a standard wireless protocol based on open source code. However, it will use current wireless interface standards. The target is to standardise communicating and managing IoT devices, regardless of form factor, operating system or service provider. Rahul Patel, Broadcom senior vice president and general manager, Wireless Connectivity, commented Interoperability will be a critical enabler as the IoT ecosystem continues to evolve. Doug Fisher, Intel s general manager of the Software and Services Group, stated The rise and ultimate success of the internet of things depends on the ability for devices and systems to securely and reliably interconnect and share information. Fisher further added This requires common frameworks, based on truly open, industry standards. The first OIC open source code will focus the specific needs of smart home like remotely controlling household systems. Jim Zemlin, executive director of The Linux Foundation., commented Open source is about collaboration and about choice.
