(Canada Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ATIO welcomes new leadership as it commemorates the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the ATIO Act, 1989.

OTTAWA, July 10, 2014 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO) is pleased to announce that Marc Pandi is the newly appointed Executive Director. Marc Pandi has a solid background in communication and business administration, as well as extensive management experience. Before joining ATIO, Marc worked in the university, communications, and non-profit sectors in various management and communications roles.



ATIO recently expanded its membership categories to include Medical and Community Interpreters, and its new strategic direction will be focused on networking, advocacy, new member certification, educating the public to build awareness of the value of certification when seeking quality language services, and capacity building. Marc brings considerable experience in strategic planning and programming, which he will employ to diversify ATIO's sources of funding to pursue its vision.

"ATIO and Ontario stand at a turning point due to global competition," says Mr. Pandi. "As the new Executive Director, I wish to make it clear that I will work with our members to face these challenges. I look forward to engaging with our partners in the language industry to maintain the integrity of our professions in the global marketplace." ATIO is also commemorating the 25th anniversary of the ATIO Act, 1989. Anniversary celebrations will be part of International Translation Day events on September 30, 2014.


ABOUT ATIO ATIO is the first translators' association in the world whose certified members are deemed professionals by law. In February 1989, the Province of Ontario granted a reserved title for certified members of ATIO through the Association of Translators and Interpreters Act, 1989. In Ontario, ATIO is the exclusive certifying body for translators, terminologists, conference interpreters, court interpreters, community interpreters and medical interpreters.
