GCF Invests $1.7 Million in Local Nonprofits

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CINCINNATI, July 9 -- The Greater Cincinnati Foundation issued the following news release: The Greater Cincinnati Foundation recently awarded more than $1.7 million in grants to build a more prosperous Greater Cincinnati region. Thanks to the Foundation's generous donors, it's able to support needs identified by the region's nonprofit sector and support thriving people and vibrant places.

The 36 grants include the following examples: In the area of Educational Success (http://www.gcfdn.org/CommunityInvestment/EducationalSuccess/tabid/194/Default.aspx), the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati (http://www.gcul.org/) received $90,000 for after-school programming at Rockdale Academy and South Avondale Elementary Schools.

In Health & Wellness (http://www.gcfdn.org/CommunityInvestment/HealthWellness/tabid/196/Default.aspx), GCF awarded $70,000 to Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio(http://ccswoh.org/) for health care access for Hispanic/Latino immigrants through and outreach and education program.

GCF granted $50,000 to The Point/Arc of Northern Kentucky, Inc(http://thepointarc.org/). toward the purchase of a group home residence. This grant is under GCF's Economic Opportunity (http://www.gcfdn.org/CommunityInvestment/EconomicOpportunity/tabid/193/Default.

) area.

BLOC Ministries, Inc. (http://blochead.org/) received a $40,000 grant toward the restoration of four blighted buildings in Lower and East Price Hill. This grant is in the Strong Communities (http://www.gcfdn.org/CommunityInvestment/StrongCommunities/tabid/197/Default.aspx) category.

In the area of Cultural Vibrancy (http://www.gcfdn.org/CommunityInvestment/CulturalVibrancy/tabid/192/Default.aspx), GCF awarded $50,000 to a new full-time community outreach coordinator to the College Conservatory of Music (http://ccm.uc.edu/).

The Corporation for Findlay Market (http://www.findlaymarket.org/) received a $50,000 grant toward support for a shared, commercial kitchen for the region's community of food entrepreneurs. This is under the GCF's Job Creation (http://www.gcfdn.org/CommunityInvestment/JobCreation/tabid/375/Default.aspx) area.

In the area of Environmental Stewardship (http://www.gcfdn.org/CommunityInvestment/EnvironmentalStewardship/tabid/195/Default.aspx), the Green Partnership for Greater Cincinnati (http://www.green-cincinnati.org/) received a $50,000 for phase two of a rainwater harvesting project for indoor, non-potable use.
