Government from the Outside-In: GTEC 2014 Shifts Focus to Citizens' Point of View

(Canada Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) OTTAWA, Ontario, July 9, 2014 /CNW/ -- GTEC, Canada's largest government technology event, will present a thought-provoking conference program around the challenges and opportunities in government IT by adjusting its lens to focus on "Government from the Outside-In." GTEC today released the first keynote speaker, Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited's CTO Eugene Roman, who will speak to how a cyber-powered government can better serve Canadian citizens. GTEC runs October 27–30, 2014 at the Ottawa Convention Centre. To register or for more information, visit: www.gtec.ca.

Roman will take the keynote stage on Wednesday, October 29. He attests that traditional IT is being rapidly replaced by new technology tools that have the potential to change the scope of digital government. New digital initiatives may deliver enriched government service to citizens, but also create unpredictable risk. He'll share his perspective on how IT experts can effectively manage this new digital force.

Leading up to the event, GTEC will continue to announce keynotes and conference sessions led by public sector and industry experts. GTEC will present more than 50 sessions within four conference themes focusing on citizens' needs: Access to Digital Services: Citizens expect to access government services online. How can government entities meet this demand? Integrated Service Delivery: Citizens do not differentiate between the various levels of government. Governments must collaborate by co-locating, streamlining and delivering integrated services. Information – A Critical Enabler: The field of government analytics is creating a massive new capacity for the collection, integration, sharing and use of information. How can analytics best be implemented? Intelligent Infrastructure: A new platform is emerging, with mobile extending the edge, cloud taking its place at the core, big data enabling insights faster, and social technologies humanizing automated processes."IT's shift to working hand-in-hand with business is enabling government to respond more effectively to citizens' growing expectations around digital service," said GTEC Executive Director Michele Lajeunesse. "GTEC showcases this service excellence within the public sector while connecting attendees with the top ICT vendors who help the Canadian government remain competitive among the global technology marketplace." GTEC includes a two-day expo, Canada's largest showcase of technologies and services for advancing the business of ICT in government. The Expo Hall will welcome more than 160 companies on October 28 and 29. GTEC also hosts the coveted Distinction Awards and Gala, which recognizes excellence in public service information technology and information management in Canada.
